Baselworld show is the undisputed trendsetting event worldwide. Nowhere else are more innovations and new creations revealed than at Baselworld. This year the luxury watches event will take place from 17th to 24th of March and with it will take many jewelry innovations, trends, opulence and luxury.
Before this major watches event arrives, Luxury Safes decided to remember last year’s edition and the 2015 luxury watches trends from Baselworld.
Classics in Contemporary Interpretations
The manufacturers prioritized technical evolution while preserving the original aesthetic. New materials and craftsmanship underscore their timeless charm. The general trend was likewise toward classical and vintage-inspired designs, with thin cases and bezels surrounding spacious dials.
New Manufacture Movements
Cultivation of classical watchmaking was only one of the luxury trends at 2015 global watch and jewellery show, where many luxury brands naturally showed truly surprising innovations. Among them were numerous new manufacture movements, which express cutting-edge design and tasteful sophistication.
Mechanical Watches for ladies
Increasingly many mechanical watches, some with manufacture movements, are available for women. The fascination with mechanical timekeeping has captured the hearts of aficionadas, who are enthusiastic about the inner life of a timepiece with its oscillating balance, tiny intermeshing gears, levers and gleaming red jewelled bearings. Although women are taking a much greater interest in the watch’s interior, the exterior must likewise satisfy high standards: aesthetic and watches design remain important criterias.
Alongside the fascination for classical mechanisms, Baselworld 2015 also highlighted the skills of outstanding artists whose creativity seems positively boundless. Aficionados could discover some of the finest examples of craftsmanship, featuring dials embellished with diverse handicrafts. Beautiful enamel painting, marquetry with tiny inlaid pieces, ornaments crafted from genuine feathers, fine draughtsmanship on mother-of-pearl and skeletonising impressed the connoisseurs.
Designers demonstrate watchmaking expertise
In the past few years we have witnessed a change in the world of luxury watch brands, as they focused more on technological innovations and watchmaking prowess. This was also evident in 2015. While they are still tied in closely with their runway lines – offering the latest colours, accents and patterns – the fashion houses introduced complex mechanical timepieces that perfectly align with their refined couture message.
The colour blue was again dominant in many introductions at Baselworld. The trend, which was already evident last year, runs through all sectors. Midnight blue, azure, navy blue, indigo, turquoise and porcelain blue – the primary colour, which is a symbol of harmony, eternity and faith, appeared in an astonishingly diverse array of hues and nuances.
Smartwatches Making Their Entrance
A big buzz in the industry has been over smart technology lately, but despite all the hype, traditional watchmakers are not losing sleep over it and this theme played only a minor role at the show. Still, some combinations of classical mechanisms and smart technology could be seen at Baselworld last year.
Some luxury watch brands announced that they will soon offer such watches. However, it was interesting to see that – rather than merely launching a “dummy” with an interface to a mobile phone – each brand pursues its own approach, emphasizing the importance of a classical watch with an individualistic character.
